The Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) degree program is an academic program clinically based at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in affiliation with Mercer University School of Medicine. This twenty-eight month, seven-semester program is designed to provide the knowledge and experience required for entry into practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

Nurse Anesthesia students will learn to administer a variety of anesthetics to all patient populations for a wide range of surgical and non-surgical procedures. At Mercer, we are uniquely positioned to provide an opportunity unmatched by other programs. Situated in the School of Medicine allows us to provide an exceptional background in basic sciences that facilitates not only the skills associated with general anesthetics but accelerates the performance abilities of regional anesthetics in the clinical environment. The unique partnership between the Medical Center of Central Georgia (MCCG) and Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) allows participation in cadaver anatomy and physiology, as well as providing an academic atmosphere which fosters an attitude of lifelong learning and an appreciation of health care research. Clinically, the Medical Center of Central Georgia provides the critical link from the didactic and research setting of the Medical School to the clinical exposure and application of critical skills.

As one of a few major medical centers located in the State of Georgia, MCCG prides itself in its forward thinking approaches to improving quality of life and access to health care for central Georgia. The Medical Center with the Children’s Hospital provides unmatched clinical experiences for the Nurse Anesthetists to develop the critical independent mindset in support of the shared missions and goals of the Medical School and the Medical Center. From the smiles of pre-admission testing to the intense focus in the operating room, nurse anesthesia students are expected to care, learn and perform the complex task that cumulatively provide a positive anesthesia experience for our patient population.
