Clinical Clerkship Introduction

Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology!  The purpose of our department isobgyn_clerkship.jpg education of students in the special health care needs of women, information that will assure proper management of the female patient by all physicians no matter what area of medicine they may ultimately practice. General educational goals of the program are:

  • An understanding of the basic anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system and common disorders that may occur.

  • An understanding of the physiologic changes of normal pregnancy and common abnormalities that may occur during pregnancy.

  • An understanding of the primary health care needs of women including family planning, screening for malignancy, and counseling for sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Awareness of the impact on health and well being of psychosocial factors such as pregnancy wastage, sexuality, and domestic violence.

  • Direct patient care experience in both inpatient and ambulatory settings with emphasis on management of normal pregnancy and ambulatory gynecology.
