Introduction

The Department of Pathology is one of only two administrative units participating in the preclinical basic science program. The first two years of biomedical training at MUSM are completely integrated and all other disciplines are managed by the Department of Basic Science. In addition to our curricular participation as tutors, we offer clerkship and elective experience for senior students in Macon as well as a wide range of informal resource sessions and consultation for students and others.

Participation in one autopsy is required of second-year students. The department organizes and conducts this program and reviews the reports submitted by students.

The department maintains a histopathology laboratory for use in teaching and research.  Computer-supported educational programs are also being developed by the departments for use in the pre-clinical curriculum.
