SAVANNAH FAMILY PRACTICE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

The Savannah Family Medicine Residency and Memorial Health welcomes you for your third year Family Medicine Clerkship.
 
This residency program has been in place since the late 1970's.  We have been educating students since the early 1980's.  We now have students who come from the Medical College of Georgia, Mercer University School of Medicine, and occasional 4th year students from other schools.  Part of the advantage of doing your clerkship in Savannah is interaction with students from other schools.  We all learn from each other and our residents greatly enjoy teaching students.
 
Savannah (See Savannah.com) is a lovely town with one of the largest historic districts in the country.  There is plenty to do outside of the educational opportunities.  There are plays, jazz concerts and clubs, art galleries and museums, the Ralph Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, a history museum, an aquatic center, the Georgia Historical Society headquarters, professional baseball, and Georgia Southern and Savannah State football.  We also have the St. Patrick's Day celebration in the spring and Oktoberfest in the fall. Additionally, the hospital has a fitness center.  Of course, there is the beach, River Street, lots of seafood and other activities of interest in the surrounding area.  
 
Our hospital, Memorial Health University Medical Center, is the tertiary care center for most of SE Georgia and part of Low Country South Carolina.  We also have a trauma center and a Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery.  Most specialists are represented in the staff of Memorial.  The Family Medicine Center is in a separate building from the hospital, but is only about a block and a half away. It also houses the Family Medicine Continuity, a laboratory, and a computer system that is networked with the hospital. Our faculty has many years of experience in Family Medicine and Family Medicine education.  We really enjoy teaching.
 
We provide lunch most days at the Family Medicine Center.  There is a cafeteria in the hospital and multiple restaurants in the general vicinity of the hospital.
