Mercer University School of Medicine - Macon and Savannah Campus

About the School

The School of Medicine was established in 1982 to educate physicians and health professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia. The Mercer School of Medicine Doctor of Medicine program utilizes a problem-based medical education program that provides early patient care experiences. Such an academic environment fosters the early development of clinical problem-solving and instills in each student an awareness of the importance of the basic medical sciences in medical practice. The Doctor of Medicine program operates on two four year campuses. One on Mercer University’s campus in Macon, located in Central Georgia and the other on Memorial University Medical Center’s campus in Savannah, located in Coastal Georgia. Clinical experiences for Macon students are provided by the Medical Center of Central Georgia, while in Savannah, Memorial University Health Center partners with Mercer for training and educational needs. Other degree programs offered out of The Mercer School of Medicine’s Macon campus include the Master of Public Health and  Master of Family Therapy. In fall 2007, the School of Medicine began working with Piedmont Healthcare to offer its Master of Family Therapy degree program in Atlanta. In August 2012, the School of Medicine will launch a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Master of Science in Preclinical Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Medical Psychology.
