Image and Multimedia Websites

imagesMD – Accessible through http://gain.mercer.edu
Subscription database available through GaIN. Contains over 50,000 images spanning all of internal medicine, all derived from Current Medicine’s series of illustrated atlases. Each image is accompanied by detailed text written by contributing experts in the field. Images include photographs, radiographs, tables, charts, and more. Save images to a slide collection and create PowerPoint presentations in one easy step (requires free registration). Images are licensed for personal use (teaching, research, etc). HEAL (Health Education Assets Library) - http://www.healcentral.org
Digital library of images, presentations, videos, etc for health science educators and learners in a range of fields in health science, including medicine, nursing, and pathology. You can browse HEAL by subject or by collection. HEAL assets are freely available for use in teaching and research. Quality control is assured by a process of peer-review. Provided by Eccles Health Sciences Library, University of Utah.

PHIL (Public Health Image Library) - http://phil.cdc.gov/phil/home.asp
Offers an organized gateway to CDC’s photos, illustrations, and multimedia resources. Most of the images are in the public domain and free of any copyright restrictions. You can also restrict your search to items in the public domain.

MedPix - http://rad.usuhs.mil/medpix/parent.php3
Over 30,000 images covering 6,000 topics in radiology, pathology, dermatology, anatomy, and endoscopy. Includes patient cases. Filter results by organ system, body region, disease, or imaging modality. Users may view images for free or register (free) to download images for teaching purposes. All public content is peer-reviewed by an editorial panel. Provided by the Depts. of Radiology and Biomedical Informatics, Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, MD.

MedlinePlus Encyclopedia - http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/encyclopedia.html
Includes an extensive library of medical photographs and illustrations. Copyrighted by A.D.A.M. Encyclopedia.

Google Images – http://images.google.com/
Search the web for images using the Google search engine. Using one or two search terms usually works best. Search options include domain (.com, .edu), file sizes, coloration, and file types. Note that many of the images are copyrighted.

ARRS GoldMiner- http://goldminer.arrs.orgProvides access to thousands of images published in over 200 peer-reviewed radiology journals. Search for images by findings, anatomy, imaging technique, and patient age and sex. From the American Roentgen Ray Society.

HON Media - http://www.hon.ch/Media/media.html
Repository of over 6,800 medical images and videos, covering 1,700 topics. Some items are copyrighted; some are public domain. From Health on the Net.
