Clinical Skills

This course is designed to learn the basic physical examination techniques and human interaction clincial_skills.jpgskills necessary for medical students to interact effectively with patients in the clinical environment. The course is structured to present progressively more advanced lessons over the first 2 years. The lessons are mostly scheduled to coincide with the subjects in the BMP program. The learning occurs primarily in small groups. “Standardized Patients” and videotaped self-critique are utilized extensively in this course systematic approach.  In the overview session a faculty member discusses and often demonstates interview and physical exam techniques.  The practicum sessions allows individual students to practice with SP's and receive constructive feedback.  Written exams after most lessons help reinforce concepts and identify areas of weakness.
