Photocopying

Purpose

Photocopy services are offered to accomodate users who need photocopies of materials which do not circulate or which they choose not to check out.

Self-Service Photocopying

Copying equipment is available for use in the library. Photocopying is $.10/page. Mercer School of Medicine students, faculty, and staff use their Bear Cards for copying, adding value as needed. For non-affiliated library users, a photocopy card may be purchased from the regenerator located next to the photocopy machines at a cost of $2.00.

MUSM faculty or staff with prior approval from their department can charge copies to their department by using generic faculty photocopy cards available at the Library and LRC circulation desks. Quarterly invoices will be submitted to the department or directly to the faculty or staff member at the cost of $.10/page. If a departmental copy account has been set up through Auxiliary Services, the faculty or staff member may use their Mercer ID Bear Card or a departmental copy card and charges will be charged directly to the department's account.

Masters Students in the MPH, MFT, and MSA programs receive no copy allotment.

Freshmen and sophomore medical students will be allotted $150.00 in photocopy page credits per year, paid for by the school. This will be credited to the students' Mercer ID Bear Card photocopy accounts. Unused credit will be voided on July 31 each year. In order to make additional copies (at $.10/page) after the allotted $150.00, students will need to add value to their Mercer ID Bear Card, and can do so via the regenerator located in the Medical Library, or online at http://www.bearcardoffice.com/BbOne/BearCard/Deposits.htm

Junior and senior medical students will be allotted $50.00 in photocopy page credits per year, paid for by the school, and credited to their Mercer ID Bear Card photocopy account. Unused credit will be voided on July 31 each year.

If they do not currently have one, junior and senior medical students will need to obtain a Mercer Bear Card (from Auxiliary Services on the Macon campus) so that their allotment can be added. If students do not have a Bear Card, they cannot receive their allotment.

NOTE: Photocopy and print allotments are on two separate accounts. You cannot use your print allotment in place of your photocopy allotment, and vice versa. Once funds from your photocopy and print accounts are depleted, these accounts will then pull funds from your Bear Bucks account. In order to make additional prints or photocopies after the allotted amounts, students will need to add value to their Bear Card, as noted above.

Library-Provided Photocopying

The library staff provides photocopy service for MUSM faculty and staff with prior approval from their department for articles available in the library. The service is provided within the guidelines of the Copyright Law which may occasionally prohibit fulfillment of a photocopy request. Because of staff limitations, larger photocopy requests may take several days to complete. Quarterly invoices will be billed to the department or directly to the faculty or staff member at the cost of $.10/page.

Fees for providing library photocopying services to non-affiliates are based according to the library's service fee schedule. Please contact the library for more information on these charges. (478) 301-4056 or reference.ill@gain.mercer.edu

A photocopy request form should be completed for each request. However, if requesting materials from a bibliography or computer search, please fill out the top of the blue form, including your signature, and attach the search or bibliography with the desired items clearly marked. Do not copy the results of a computer search onto the blue form. Your original computer search may be returned to you if desired when photocopying has been completed.

Photocopy requests may also be placed through GaIN. Articles may be requested using the Document Delivery Request Form (requires login) on the GaIN Services page or through regular email (reference.ill@gain.mercer.edu). Both of these message files are checked frequently throughout the day. Copies of reference lists with desired articles clearly marked may also be faxed to (478) 301-2051. Telephone requests for more than three articles at a time are discouraged.

Articles owned by the library can be scanned electronically and delivered to MUSM students, faculty and staff members' desktops via email. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to utilize this service; this software is freely available for download from Adobe.

All photocopying done by the library is subject to copyright law. We reserve the right to limit the number of photocopies based on the limitations of the law.
