Emergency Medicine - Savannah Campus

Jay Goldstein, M.D., Academic ChairWelcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at Memorial University Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center.  The emergency department is staffed with 21 board certified physicians, including 3 Pediatric Emergency Physicians.  With a volume of 95,000 visits a year and a 19-20% admission rate, we have the opportunity to care for a diverse mix of acutely ill patients. We are exposed to every facet of emergency care with a total of 51 beds that includes a separate fast track, pediatric emergency department, and dedicated psychiatric area.

We take pride in our outstanding teaching and mentoring reputation.  Our goal is to provide Physician Assistants, Residents, and Medical Students with the best educational experience possible.  Our EM rotation introduces the necessary skills to take care of patients with a wide variety of urgent and emergent conditions. The emergency medicine rotation consists of experiences in direct patient care, bedside teaching, and weekly lectures. We provide an atmosphere conducive to learning with ample faculty teaching and feedback to make it an outstanding experience.

The Emergency Department’s educational mission is to train students and residents to become proficient, caring physicians who are able to meet the many challenges of emergency medicine.  The faculty believes that a thorough understanding of emergency care will greatly assist the students in whatever specialty they pursue.

We are proud to be contributing to Mercer University School of Medicine’s success and we look forward to our future with them.
