Obstetrics & Gynecology-Savannah Campus

David B. Byck, M.D., Chair & Program DirectorWelcome to the Mercer University School of Medicine (Savannah) Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Memorial University Medical Center. Thank you for your interest.

We are very proud of our educational program. We provide an excellent clinical and academic experience for physicians seeking training in obstetrics and gynecology, with intensive training in colposcopy, urogynecology, laparoscopy (including operative and laser laparoscopy), and abdominal and vaginal procedures.

Our program has 14 full-time faculty members as well as two full-time genetic counselors.  All faculty hold clinical appointments with the university and our faculty provide grand round lectures.  We also offer extensive research with experienced, dedicated staff to support student and resident research in a clinical setting.  Our faculty has increased the number of patients on the teaching service and expose the students and residents to a diverse mix of patients and pathology. We have full-time faculty in all sub-specialties (perinatology, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, and reproductive endocrinology).  Our teams work collaboratively to provide a wide range of complex and highly individualized services to patients. Our patients have direct access, through our staff, to all of the specialists and medical services of Memorial University Medical Center – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our program has a good mix of hands-on and didactic training.  Our medical student rotation is six weeks in duration.  The rotation is structured to incorporate ample clinical experience with didactic teaching sessions with faculty and residents.  Our residents and faculty are dedicated to education and provide good teaching.  The Department also sponsors several fourth year electives in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, and High Risk Obstetrics.  We welcome and encourage fourth year students who are interested in the field of OB/Gyn to spend four weeks with us here in Savannah.
