Dr. Bina joined the school of medicine in 1991 and has served in various Family Medicine departmental roles including Program Director of the Family Practice Residency program. He is now Chair, Department of Community Medicine and Director of the nationally accredited Master's of Public Health degree program. He served in the school as Executive Associate Dean prior to appointment as Chair. Prior to coming to Mercer, Dr. Bina was Director of the Occupational Health and Preventive Medicine Division, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. He is very active at the local, state and national level.

Dr. Bina has served in several leadership roles in the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, including President in 1998-1999. He serves as Medical Director of the Central Georgia Cancer Coalition, a state certified regional program of excellence. Dr. Bina received his B.S. in Nuclear Science from the Naval Academy in Annapolis and his M.D. degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He completed his Family Practice residency at Naval Regional Medical Center in Camp Pendleton, California. Dr. Bina also completed a General Preventive Medicine Residency and an M.P.H. degree at Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland.
