Mercer On Mission transforms lives - the lives of Mercer students and the lives of those they serve in Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and around the globe. Mercer On Mission is a unique blend of study abroad and service - learning that provides life-changing experiences for students through academic instruction, cultural immersion, meaningful service, and spiritual reflection. Working alongside in-county partners, Mercer students and faculty are distributing mosquito nets and bringing water to villages in Africa, fitting amputees in Vietnam with low-cost prosthetic legs, teaching orphans in Guatemala, students in Liberia, and the homeless in Brazil and delivering much-needed medical care in Cambodia. Mercer On Mission is the highest expressions of what it means to be a faith-based university in the 21st Century.
Mercer On Mission is crossing cultures and changing lives. Ten third year medical students and five faculty members from Mercer University engaged in the university's Mercer on Mission program. One group to Honduras and the second to Cambodia. Each team provided general medical care to 3-4 separate villages and communities in cooperation with our in-country partners. The teams also include Mercer nursing, pharmacy and CLA students. Overall, 28 Mercer University students participated. All the student activities were supervised by Mercer faculty from medical, pharmacy and nursing schools. You can follow their experiences by visiting the websites below:
Mercer University School of Medicine strongly encourages service and learning experience for all medical students. Students serving the health care needs of refugees and others who seek care gives them a deep appreciation and understanding of what a community physician is and does. Medical students who participate in this type of service will have life-changing experiences through immersion in another culture while providing meaningful service to others.
