MACON — Alice House, M.D., assistant professor of family medicine and clerkship director at Mercer University School of Medicine, was selected as board chair for the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians during the 59th Annual Scientific Assembly, held at the Cobb Galleria in Atlanta.
“It is an honor to serve one of the largest specialty groups in the state of Georgia,” said House. “The GAFP is committed to service to family physicians, residents, students and patients throughout the state of Georgia, and I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as their chair.”
Prior to her selection as board chair, House served as GAFP president. She also has been a member of the Board of Directors, secretary and vice-president, and has served on various task forces and committees.
After earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from Mercer University School of Medicine, House completed a residency in family medicine at the Medical Center of Central Georgia and operated a practice in Byron for five years. During this time, she served as the medical director for Hospice of Houston County and chief of staff at Peach Regional Hospital. She also served as chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at Peach Regional Hospital, as well as Macon Northside Hospital, now known as Coliseum Northside Hospital.
In addition to her post on the faculty at Mercer, House is the medical director for the Elberta HealthCare Center in Warner Robins. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and is a Certified Medical Director through the American Medical Directors Association. In her spare time, she plays the flute and piccolo in the Middle Georgia Concert Band.
