Population Health Research

Population Health research is spearheaded by the interdisciplinary faculty of the Department of Community Medicine. Faculty come from the fields of epidemiology, health behavior, mental health, medical sociology, political sciences and business, providing a strong basis for multidisciplinary research. Areas of focus include rural health, health disparities, maternal/child health, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, opioids, chronic disease self-management, environmental exposures and community-based participatory research.

MUSM’s population health research also provides collaborative and dissertation opportunities for students in the Ph.D. in Rural Health Sciences program.
