Center for Rural Health and Health Disparities

Working to produce community-engaged research and implement evidence-based programs to eliminate disparities and improve health for all in rural Georgia.

About the Center

The Center for Rural Health and Health Disparities at Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) is dedicated to advancing health equity and improving the well-being of rural underserved populations through innovative research, training, and community engagement. In support of MUSM’s mission to improve health care access in rural Georgia, our goal is to:

Research

Conduct rigorous, policy-relevant research that illuminates the unique health challenges faced by rural communities and minoritized populations.

Solutions

Develop and evaluate evidence-based solutions to address health disparities, improve access to quality health care, and enhance health outcomes in rural areas.

Collaboration

Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, health care providers, policymakers, and community partners to create comprehensive approaches to rural health issues.

Advocacy

Advocate for policies and practices that promote health equity, leveraging our research findings to inform decision-makers at local, state, and national levels.

Community

Engage with rural communities to understand their strengths, needs, and perspectives, ensuring our work is grounded in the lived experiences of those we serve.

By bridging research, practice, and policy, we strive to be a catalyst for positive change, working tirelessly to create a future where geography and social factors no longer determine health outcomes. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all individuals, regardless of where they live, have the opportunity to achieve optimal health and well-being.

Join us in our mission to illuminate actionable opportunities and create a healthier, more equitable future for rural Georgia.
