After You Apply

Learn what happens after you submit your application, including how it’s reviewed, what to expect if you’re invited to interview and what to do if you’re admitted.

Your application for Mercer’s Master of Family Therapy program is considered complete and eligible for Admissions Committee review once the Office of Graduate Admissions receives your application, application fee, recommendation letters, official transcripts and all other required materials. Only complete applications will be reviewed.

The overview below explains what to expect after you apply. Some stages, such as an interview or enrollment, apply only to applicants selected to advance or who are admitted.

Review of Complete Applications

The Admissions Committee conducts a preliminary review of each complete application based on academic record, letters of recommendation, relevant experience, and professional goals.

Complete Professional Interview

Applicants selected to advance in the admissions process will receive an email invitation to participate in a virtual interview with members of the Family Therapy Program team. An interview is required for admission and is conducted in a group format. The interview is designed to help Mercer learn more about your experiences, professional goals, self-awareness, interpersonal strengths and readiness for graduate clinical training.

Receive Your Admissions Decision

Following the interview, you will receive an email notification to view your decision letter in your application portal.

Admission decisions are typically released no later than ten (10) working days following the interview. Applicants who interview during the Early Decision window are guaranteed a decision by February 19, 2027.

Complete Enrollment Steps if Admitted

Your applicant portal will include your acceptance letter, enrollment checklist and required next steps with important information and action items required to move forward with enrollment. Read each item carefully, note all requirements and deadlines, and contact our Office of Admissions if you have questions.

Accepted applicants must submit a $50 non-refundable deposit to reserve a seat in the program. Your deposit will be applied toward tuition upon enrollment. If you submit your deposit but do not enroll, the deposit will be forfeited. Deposits must be submitted by the deadline stated in your application portal.

Accepted applicants must also complete a criminal background check through CISIVE Student Check prior to new student orientation. Instructions will appear in your applicant portal checklist.
