How to Apply

Enter all colleges and universities you have attended on your application, regardless of how long you attended, whether you earned a degree, or whether the coursework was transferred to and appears on another institution’s transcript.

You may arrange for official transcripts to be sent before you have completed or submitted your application. Likewise, do not delay submitting your application while waiting for official transcripts to be received. Specific transcript requirements and submission instructions are provided below.

Official transcripts are also required for:

• Dual-enrollment coursework completed through a college or university
• Any coursework completed beyond the undergraduate or master’s degree, including doctoral or other post-master’s study.

Note: Current Mercer students and alumni do not need to request a Mercer University transcript but must submit official transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended.

How to Submit Official Transcripts

Official transcripts must be sent directly to Mercer University School of Medicine by the institution or its authorized transcript service.

Electronic delivery is quicker and preferred. When ordering your transcript:

• Visit your current or previous institution’s Registrar’s Office website and locate its transcript-ordering instructions.
• When prompted to select a recipient, choose Mercer University School of Medicine or Mercer University School of Medicine Admissions, if available.
• If a recipient email address is required, use musmadmissions@mercer.edu.

For commonly used transcript services:

• Parchment: Select Mercer University School of Medicine Admissions as the delivery destination.
• National Student Clearinghouse: Select College or University → Mercer University → Department Not in List, and send electronically to musmadmissions@mercer.edu.

If your institution does not offer electronic transcript delivery, official transcripts may be mailed to:

Applicants with Education Completed Outside the United States

The Mercer Family Therapy program does not currently accept international applicants. However, domestic applicants who completed some or all of their education outside the United States must have their foreign educational credentials evaluated by an approved independent credential-evaluation service.

• Mercer accepts evaluations from services such as the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). In addition to WES and ECE, we will accept evaluations from credentialing services certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES ), or the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ACCRAO). A course-by-course evaluation that includes a U.S. grade-point-average equivalent is required.
• Before ordering an evaluation, contact MUSM Graduate Admissions at musmadmissionsgrad@mercer.edu to confirm that the service is accepted and to receive submission instructions.
• Only official credential-evaluation reports sent directly to Mercer University School of Medicine by the evaluation service will be accepted. Reports emailed or forwarded by the applicant cannot be accepted as official.

Enter contact information for two people who have agreed to speak about your readiness for graduate study in the health professions. Add them early —do not wait until you have finished all application materials.

After you save your application, each recommender will receive an email with a link to upload a letter. You can continue working on and submit your application while letters are pending. You do not need to wait for the letters to arrive before submitting.

Choose recommenders who know your academic or professional work. They should have agreed to write on your behalf. Examples include professors, academic advisors, supervisors, managers or employers.

If possible, include at least one recommender who can speak directly to your academic potential. If you have been out of school for some time, you may choose recommenders from professional or clinical settings who can speak to your readiness for graduate-level work.

Ask recommenders to address your strengths and potential. Their letters should discuss your interpersonal skills, work ethic, maturity, professional readiness and potential to succeed in the program and healthcare professions.

Letters should be on official letterhead, if available, and signed by the author. Additional letters may be submitted.

Upload your resume or curriculum vitae in your application portal. Make sure it includes relevant dates and brief descriptions each role during employment, internships, volunteer/service work, leadership activities, research, professional involvement and training or certifications.

Upload a personal statement of approximately 750 words. Describe your understanding of the field of family therapy and the experiences that have shaped your interest in behavioral healthcare. These may include employment, internships, shadowing, community service, caregiving or other meaningful experiences that deepened your understanding of relational dynamics or strengthened your commitment to helping others. You may also explain circumstances that contributed to poor academic performance or multiple withdrawals on your transcript.

Applicants may choose to submit GRE scores; however, GRE scores are not required for admission to the program. If you choose to submit scores, official results must be sent directly to Mercer University through ETS using institutional code 5409 and department code 0000.

A non-refundable $50 application fee is required and may be paid through your applicant portal after you submit your application. The application fee does not apply toward tuition and is waived for current Mercer students and alumni.
