Supports faculty in the interpretation of assessment data, provides faculty development for tutor evaluation of students, and supports the Medical Practice faculty in the development and scoring of the Medical Practice Reasoning Assessment.

Medical Education Research

Provides support to faculty members interested in medical education research methodology (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) as needed.

Available to help develop computer training materials and assist in the use of computer applications and related technologies.

Information Technology

Offers consultation and training in the use of educational technology and technology for designing course materials. Mercer IT staff members are available to support and assist the faculty in the use of E-portfolios, Canvas, digital storytelling, blogs, podcasts, digital imaging, multimedia presentations, smart classroom facilities, photography, and audiovisual design. Staff members are available upon request to conduct training sessions for all three campuses via WebEx or Zoom.

Center for Teaching and Learning

Offers a wide variety of resources and services to support teaching for Mercer faculty, including faculty development. Individual faculty members can request services specific to their needs. The center’s website also provides online teaching resources and guides on a variety of topics (e.g., assessment, flipped classroom, course design, etc.).

Sponsors research conferences and grant-writing workshops to promote inter-professional education practice, and research within the health sciences.

Houses information on preparing grants and contracts per the University policy. This office also conducts grant-writing workshops for training in the grant development and submission process.

Office of Research Compliance

Provides CITI and HIPAA training, as well as training in the preparation and submission of IRB materials.

Consists of faculty development presentations that occur over the noon hour via Zoom and address topics such as educational methods, feedback and assessment, educational technology and design, wellness, diversity, equity and inclusion, scholarship and research. This series hosts expert clinicians, researchers, scholars, medical educators, and basic scientists from both within Mercer University School of Medicine/Mercer University and across the United States. IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminars

The Mercer University School of Medicine has an institutional subscription to the IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminars. IAMSE is a nonprofit professional development society organized and directed by health professions educators whose goals include promoting excellence and innovation in teaching, student assessment, program evaluation, instructional technology, human simulation, and learner-centered education. The Mercer University School of Medicine has an institutional subscription to the Teaching Physician. Teaching Physician addresses a number of topics valuable to physicians and residents who teach, such as Teaching Strategies, Feedback, Evaluation, and Precepting Principles. A “Focus of the Month” section is included as well as an archive of previous months.

Teaching Physician also includes links to free online faculty development opportunities in the areas of clinical teaching, public speaking, active learning, competency based medical education, question writing, student mistreatment, and PowerPoints. Helpful documents such as the NBME Question Writing Guide and the MUSM Skelton Medical Libraries Resources Handout are also included. To access, once logged in, click on “My School”.

Mercer University School of Medicine is approved as a Pediatric Portfolio Sponsor by the American Board of Pediatrics through October 2025. This sponsorship allows pediatricians and pediatric trainees to earn MOC credit for work they are already doing while participating in the School of Medicine’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
