Next Steps for Accepted Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to the Mercer University School of Medicine and welcome to the Class of 2028! After you are accepted, there are important steps that need your attention. Please bookmark this page and check back periodically for updates.

Complete the Campus Preference Request Form that was included in your acceptance packet and email it to Admissions. Campuses are assigned on a first-come first-served basis, but cannot be guaranteed. If you are not assigned to your first or second choice, you can be added to the wait list. For early assurance applicants, campus preference processing occurs after final acceptance in June 2024.

Establishing a Georgia residency for the purposes of attending the M.D. program at Mercer University School of Medicine is different from establishing residency for the purposes of obtaining a driver’s license. You must prove that you have established a Georgia residency at least 12 months immediately preceding the first day of orientation. In order to prove residency, complete the Documentation to Support Declaration of Domicile in the State of Georgia form that was included in your acceptance packet and email it to Admissions along with the required supporting documents. This is a different form than was submitted as part of your secondary application.

You will need to submit an official transcript from each institution you attended. MUSM is not able to access the transcripts submitted to AMCAS, which is why new copies must be sent. If you are currently enrolled, you will need to send a final transcript upon completion of your degree and/or courses. All official transcripts must come directly from the institution to MUSM. Any transcripts that come from the student are considered unofficial.

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) will facilitate a criminal background check on all incoming students. Within two weeks of accepting your offer, you will receive an email that prompts you to complete the necessary steps to authorize the background check and give permission for the results to be released to Mercer University School of Medicine.

It is the intent of Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) to create a transparent accommodations environment for those students receiving testing accommodations. If you are seeking accommodation for a disability, complete the forms that were included in your acceptance packet (Medical Verification of Disability Application, Form to Request Accommodations) and email them to Dr. Candi Nobles-James to begin the interactive process. Once you’ve completed steps 1-3 of this list, we will be able to establish your student ID number which allows us to create your Mercer email account. About two months prior to orientation, look for an email from Mercer’s IT department with details regarding how to access your new Mercer email account. This email will be sent to the email address that you provided on the Primary AMCAS Application.

After your enrollment deposit has been made and you have been added into our Student Enrollment System, the Office of Student Financial Planning will be able to provide financial aid estimates to those who have requested one. For those accepted by end of May 2024, financial aid award letters will be sent by mid-June 2024.

MD curriculum: Review the MD curriculum and academic calendar.
Acceptance packet enclosures: Review the Code of Honor/Professional Conduct, Dress Code, and Technical Standards enclosures.
Stethoscopes: You do not need to purchase a stethoscope. They will be gifted.
New town: Learn more about what it’s like to live in Macon, Savannah or Columbus.
Housing: Mercer University School of Medicine does not provide on-campus graduate housing. Housing options can be found through a variety of online resources.
Campus logistics: In the months leading up to orientation, you will receive more information about parking, student IDs, computer requirements and more.
Deferral: Requests to defer matriculation by one year are made on a case-by-case basis and should be made in writing outlining the circumstances to musmadmissions@mercer.edu no later than May 30, 2024. Approval of a request is not guaranteed.
