Dr. Montgomery’s main interest is data analysis using data from a variety of topics, from specific surgical data more general media effects on public health. A media effects scholar by training, her previous focus has been on emotions in media, such as effects of video games on aggression, using music as an emotion regulation strategy, or predicting taste in media via education and income. Her PhD thesis tested theoretical assumptions in evolutionary psychology when applied to music and found some false assumptions made.
